Prescribed burning is a key land management tool. It is used to restore and maintain native plant communities to their former diversity and productivity for livestock production and wildlife habitat. Without fire, native plant communities become dysfunctional and unproductive. Research clearly shows there is no substitute for fire. Texas’ ecosystems are fire dependent, and not burning is poor land management.

Joining CBPBA allows you to

  1. acquire formal burn training and experience,
  2. enlist enough manpower to conduct your burns, and
  3. provide you with access to the equipment required. It can also help manage risk and liability by having proper training, experienced help, and the right equipment to conduct safe burns.

Burn associations provide broader political influence in the legislative process, and when trying to gain exceptions that allow prescribed burns during formal burn bans, something that is necessary to accomplish the objectives of some burn plans. In some counties these exceptions are almost routine, while in others county officials remain skeptical and unyielding. There is strength in numbers.
